Who’s The Girl?
We found ourselves on Tinder
She’ll be a 50 year old man they’d say
But I was desperate as owt
So I put on my coat
Saw her waiting there and she said “Hey”
We talked about work & music
Over a pint of real ale & white wine
Was as shy as she pretty
Shined bright in this city
Got a tad drunk, but we had a good time
Took her to a fancy restaurant
The type that don’t do burger and chips
She talked about her travels
her life & her sorrows
As I sunk in her eyes and her lips
And I hope you’ve found your reason
I hope you’ve found your way
I hope you’ve found a better place
A better place to say
And I hope you’ve found your reason
I hope you’ve found your way
I hope you’ve found a better place
A better place to say
After a month or so of chatting
I travelled to her home town, Its not that far
We had drinks and lost time
She said “why not stop at mine”
I left smiling from that old dusty bar
Woke the next day, shes still sleeping
And her nose twitches like the girl from betwitched
She wakes and leans over
Pulls me a little closer
As we sink in her old blanket stitch
And I hope you’ve found your reason
I hope you’ve found your way
I hope you’ve found a better place
A better place to say
And I hope you’ve found your reason
I hope you’ve found your way
I hope you’ve found a better place
A better place to say
Now times passed by and we’re not together
And to say that brings a lump to my throat
Id be lying if id say
I didn’t miss here each day
Maybe one day she’ll hear this song I wrote
We still text ‘cause I wanna know
How here weeks been and hows the cat
She’s had troubles but she’s fine
We had a good time ….
Maybe soon we can meet for a chat
And I hope you’ve found your reason
I hope you’ve found your way
I hope you’ve found a better place
A better place to say
And I hope you’ve found your reason
I hope you’ve found your way
I hope you’ve found a better place
A better place to say
And I hope you’ve found your reason
I hope you’ve found your way
I hope you’ve found a better place
A better place to say
And I hope you’ve found your reason
I hope you’ve found your way
I hope you’ve found a better place
A better place to say

One Year On
One year on, a lot has changed, but was it for the best
Clinging on to days once spent, with your head upon my chest
If only I had a time machine, I’d travel back a year
But first a quick pitstop, to meet Jimi Hendrix for a beer
“Don’t Mug Yourself” The Streets once sang, Probably should have taken note
But you’ve got to learn the hard way, to write songs that people quote
Some memories fade & some do stick, let’s hope these were the later
‘Cause one year on, I’ll try and make things better
One year on, my songs are playing on the radio
One year on, I’m playing sold out shows at clubs we used to go
One year on, these words I wrote about you’ve become a hit
But I’d drop all that in a second, ‘cause you were really fit
One year on, there’s been a girl or two to catch my gaze
All fell by the wayside, an enigmatic haze
May have the walk, the talk, the gab, a little bit of swagger
But five pints down and a Jagerbomb, that sway becomes a sagger
Now Tinders out and i’ve swiped every girl in twenty
Hoping that we’ll match again, the usual denial
The night will end the same old way, I’m on the bus alone
Scrolling through my photos, to find your picture on my phone
One year on, my songs are playing on the radio
One year on, I’m playing sold out shows at clubs we used to go
One year on, these words I wrote about you’ve become a hit
But I’d drop all that in a second, ‘cause you were really fit

Thanks For The Adventure
He’s strolling down the high-street, in the middle of the spring
Slowly glazing over, to the words the buskers sing
When *THUD*, he suddenly falls into a clumsy passer by
Whilst gathering up his paper, she seems to catch his eye
“Well i’m sorry duck, that was my fault, should’ve looked where I was going”
Was a pretty girl, with a pretty smile, so he decides to dip his toe in
Can I buy you a coffee or a tea, to make up for our trip
They chatted for an hour or so, he pays and leaves a tip
4 months have passed, he’s in the car, about to meet her mum
The dad left home when she was 5, could say he was a bit of a bum
There’s sweat dripping from his brow & he’s shaking like a shittin’ dog
But all was fine, she’s sweet & kind, with hair like northern fog
Now driving home, she smiles his way, it seems he passed the test
They lock the door, put on a brew & start to get undressed
He likes to see himself as smooth, so pretends to untie a shoe
Whilst bringing out and old diamond ring, but to him it seems brand new
Now winter ties, and the summer won’t last
They’ll tell some lies, to cover their past
But all that’ll matter, is the space that they’re in
And that won’t change, ‘cause she means everything to him
He’s walking down the aisle, in the middle of the spring
Slowly gazing over, to the smile his new wife brings
Fumbling his vows, about love and other stuff
Hers were more concise, she says “by the way, i’m up the duff”
Now due to complications, a child wasn’t meant to be
He locks himself away, she sets a table up for 3
See a tricky path can be overcome, if your willing to find a way
They chatted for an hour or so, this time he didn’t have to pay
A few years have passed, they’re getting slow, but wiser with their age
He wrote a book of memories, to guide her through this stage
See time has took a tole upon the mind of his one love
He sings to her each night, the songs they’d dance to in the club
His face and name have disappeared, the cats went long ago
He finds it hard to cope with the fact it’s all about to go
But he won’t be stopped, he won’t lose hope, “why give up now!” He’d say
As he sits beside her bed, her brunette hair, has now turned grey
Now winter ties and the summer won’t last
They’ll tell some lies, to cover their past
But all that’ll matter, is the space that they’re in
And that won’t change, ‘cause she means everything to him
He’s shuffling down the pavement, in the middle of the spring
Grasping on to the lilies, that he promised he would bring
50 or so, friends she’d know, try holding back their tears
As he stood behind her coffin, grinning from ear to ear
When asked by their foster son “why dya seem so full of glee?”
He chuckled and said “ya see my son, I once took your mother for tea”
“Those trips may be done, with her anyway, but the memories still remain”
“So i’ll sit here drinking whiskey … till the day we meet again.”

Dog & Parrot
“What can I get you darling” says Kathryn from the bar
A pint of Dog & Parrot, and some crisps for the rock star
A friendly face to greet you, from the landlord and landlady
They say “do you want to play some tunes”, I say “maybe”, I say “maybe”
I wrote this little diddy, inspired by my mate Glyn
The worlds greatest brand manager, from here to Dub-a-lin
“When musics back and we can drink, why not write sing a song”
“About the greatest pub in England, and we can all come sing-a-long”
A stranger is a friend you’ve yet to meet, at the Dog & Parrot
A stranger is a friend you’ve yet to meet, at the Dog & Parrot
Our landlord Dave’s a strapping chap and likes to drink i’m told
But a Splendour sesh with Ben Mark Smith, you’ll start to see him fold
And Kathryn has a heart of gold and a golden ale or two
Keeping the pub running smooth and Dave’s head feeling smooth too
A stranger is a friend you’ve yet to meet, at the Dog & Parrot
A stranger is a friend you’ve yet to meet, at the Dog & Parrot
They’ve let me do some silly things, like book a gig or two
We’ve had Ferocious Dog and Crass, and Smokin’ Donuts through
I’d like to take this time to say, thank you from everyone
Thank you for all the beer, the music, thank you for all the fun
A stranger is a friend you’ve yet to meet, at the Dog & Parrot
A stranger is a friend you’ve yet to meet, at the Dog & Parrot
A stranger is a friend you’ve yet to meet, at the Dog & Parrot
